e@syFile is SARS’ client tool to manage your taxes and payroll components. It can work in an off-line mode, but allows you to connect via the Internet to SARS once you are ready to submit documents.
With regards to usability, the tool is pretty poor. Having followed the process myself for PAYE Reconciliation, I can indicate with confidence that you have to jump through hoops to get what should be a simple process, completed.
On the security front, things are much worse. First, SARS almost always recommends you uninstall your existing version before updating to a new version. This means that you may lose your existing data should you not make use of the included ( and broken ) backup process. On installing the latest version available from the www.sars.co.za website, you are also asked to install an old and vulnerable version of Java ( jre 6 update 6 ) as well as an old and vulnerable version of Adober AIR. The list of issues and bugs in Java is endless, yet not only does SARS mandate it’s use but also an older release which has well-known and publicly known issues.
Come on SARS, surely you can do better than this?

One response to “SARS e@syFile issues”
I,ve tried uninstalling, downloading, updating Java and all I get on Win 7 64 bit is “processing” till time out. I tried to install on win 8 netbook and find even more issues. SARS cannot help and keep saying they will escalate the problem. They even had a cheek to auto download a letter requesting an extension for EMP501 Aug 2013. This really sucks beause if you did your Feb 2013 returns on E@syfile you cannot do this process outside of e@syfile. This software really sucks!!!!!
