Linux: 20 years and growing stronger every day

The Linux Foundation is celebrating 20 years of Linus Torvalds’ epic creation, the Linux kernel. What started out as a simple hobby has grown into possibly the biggest ( and most disruptive ) phenomenon in computing history, powering commercial business, most of the internet, supercomputing, stock exchanges, a myriad of electronic appliances, entertainment systems and hobbyists all  around the world.

Linus’ choice of the GPL license meant that for the first time, a practical and radical new view on software development was used, that allowed software projects to scale and grow without the historical restrictions of the commercial software development model. It”s this freedom to share and sense of community, that directly lead to GNU Linux’s massive growth and popularity.

Happy Birthday Linux!
